Jamie Engel is a freelance writer and book reviewer living in Richardson. She writes for fiv elocal newspapers, is the editor of the Fixin' to Sell It column for the Texas Coalition of Authors and reviews books for Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, Midwest Book Reviews, and online book review venues. She is a judge for the Publisher's Marketing Association's Ben Franklin Awards. Jamie is in the process of preparing online classes for writers and authors on a variey of topics, including the business side of writing.
JAUARY MEETING RECAP

Instead of the usual article this month, I am posting a list of conferences and workshops sent to me over the past few weeks with the implicit request that they be included in the newsletter.
Asbury United Methodist Church is hosting a Writer's Seminar on Saturday, Feb 18th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm iwht author Susan Duke. Ther ewill be four sessions, accompanied by handouts and a bound handbook. A box lunch is also included in the day-long seminar. The cost is $70 per person. To register, please call Mildred Simmons at 940/382-3292. Please note that this seminar will definitely have a Christian approach although all writers of all genere are welcome.
The Inaugural Writes of Spring Literary Festival of Books will be held in downtown Dallas from March 31 to April 2, 2006 in conjunction with the Writes of Spring Writers Conference and Literary Festival. They are now offering a 20% discount on booth and table rental if ordered before Feb 15. For more information go to their website at http://www.writersgarret.org/ . Dreamin' In Dallas 2006, the annual writers conference hosted by the Dallas Area Romance Authors chapter of the RWA, will be held March 31 - April 1 at the Holiday Inn Select in Richardson, TX. Early registration for Non-DARA members is $95 and ends on Feb 15 after that it will go up to $115. Weatherford College's Fourth Annual Books 'n Authors All That Jazz will be held April 29 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Weatherford College in Weatherford, TX. Registration deadline is Friday, March 24, 2006. There was no website or cost for the conference on the e-mail I received. It says to call or e-mail Linda Bagwell if interested.
