July 10 - General Meeting - Emily Fowler Library GUEST SPEAKER There will be no guest speaker for July. We will discuss the plans for
the anthology.
DWL 2ND ANTHOLOGY
Due to the varying genres of our members, we will not limit the content to just one genre. Non-fiction will be accepted too
as it relates to writing and any aspects of writing (ie, marketing, publishing, editing).
There are two editors already signed up. I need 2 more editors. The
editors will read the submissions for acceptance. Once accepted, the submissions
will be divided amongst the editors for content and grammatical editing. I'll
format the manuscript for publishing and place it on Lulu.Com. This way we
are free to order as many or as few as we want or need.
If anyone is interested in how to use Lulu to publish their own works, you are
more than welcome to sit with me when I load the files or I can actually give a
small course in how to publish a book using it. LUlu can also be used to publish
calendars, yearbooks, cd's and dvd's. The only out of pocket cost is paying for
a copy to proof or if you want to use one of their ISBN's. They also over
editing and marketing for a price. I haven't used any of the paid services but I
have published 3 books through Lulu, mainly as a "family" thing and one "print
on demand" for an e-book.
Besides volunteers for editing, we will need to decide on a submission deadline, a title and cover art. I think due to what I learned last time, we'll limit the short stories and essays to 5000 words and the poetry to 25 lines but no limit on the number of poetry submissions. Some of the poetry in the last anthology were so long that it carried over to another page and sometimes over to two pages which made the flow hard to maintain which in turn made the poem hard to read.
The only requirement is that if the submission is accepted and they are not already a member of the DWL, that they
must join since it is a DWL Project.
