GUEST SPEAKER
Gisela was born in Berlin Germany and lived there through the Nazi Regime of World War II. She received a scholarship from the Institute of International Education which brought her to the US in 1950. In 1951, she married a Ministerial student who later became a Methodist Minister. They were married for 35 years and had 3 sons together. Her husband passed away 24 years ago. After retirement, she traveled Europe and marries her second husband who passed away 10 years ago. Now, she makes appearances promoting her book, Finally Free-My Escapes from the Big Black Fences, which details her life growing up in Berlin, living through World War II, and her eventual arrival in the United States.
Visit http://www.finallyfreebook.com/index.htm to read more about Gisela and her story.
June begins the new fiscal year for the Denton Writers
League. We will begin collecting the $15 membership fee in June. I
am including a copy of the membership form for those of you who need to update
your contact information.
POETRY CORNER
Poetry Group Open Mic Night RECAP OF MARCH'S MEETING Joan Upton Hall invited us to sign up for her newsletter called, Page Turners. She had a sign-up sheet at the meeting but if you were unable to attend the meeting, you can subscribe to the newsletter by sending an e-mail to PageTurnerHome@aol.com.
The member who attended the meeting learned the Recipe for Writing a Synopsis. The synopsis should be written in present tense and should be short. The shorter, the better. Don't use fancy fonts and be sure to give the end of the story.
There are four main sections or paragraphs in a synopsis.
To help keep the synopsis short, stick to the main story, stick to the main characters, and leave out the details of an event.
